Turning Challenges Into Opportunities and Mastering Customer Problem Solving

A lot of people start business because there’s a gap in the market, there’s something they wish they had or they see something that there is a need or demand for. This involves the creative process of taking something that doesn’t belong and making it, or taking something that already belongs and making it better. When we get involved with the day to day business operations, we sometimes get removed from what the customer actually needs. In this blog post, we will cover how you can solve customer problems more efficiently.

Winning the Business Game

If business is a game, what if winning would be understanding customers’ pain points and meeting their needs? When this is the focus, the solution can change and evolve. It’s not going to be this one thing forever. Pain points and ways a customer expresses that could evolve.

Listen Intently

Listen to feedback and dissatisfaction. This is an opportunity to reflect on what a customer needs and wants. Listen for frustration, such as, “Man, I wish xyz.” Really listen to what people are saying and what they want, so you can most accurately solve the problem.

Hold Customer Discovery Interviews

Hear customer’s language and how they talk about the problem. Look at reviews of your business on google reviews. Be a detective and get obsessed with understanding. Have meaningful conversations with a lot of active listening, questions and insights. Have “two ears and one mouth" (listen as much as possible).

Pick a Problem

When you want to start a business, pick a problem that needs to be solved in the world. Look around and think “What could be different/more efficient/more beautiful/more enjoyable?” This will drive innovation. Do customer interviews about this problem you’ve noticed. Aim for 50-100 customer interviews, and see them as prospective customers that might make a sale. How can you get these people to make a sale? What price point are they okay with?

Use Timeline That Works for You

When you implement changes, you can use a timeline that works for you as a business owner. Some things can be adjusted immediately and you can implement the change today, but sometimes might be more energy and time consuming so you can strategically deploy that update next quarter. Get into your own rhythm for your business.
