Your Guide to SMART Success
What is effective goal setting all about? It's about clarity and purpose. We hope in your life and business you have some idea of why you're doing this and where you want to go. These elements should click together to give you clarity so you can create goals for yourself to get closer and closer to your long term vision. You can use the SMART method to help you get there faster. Read this blog post to find out how!
Specific
The S in SMART stands for “Specific.” Define your goals with precision- what do you want to achieve? This goes hand in hand with clarity. The clearer you are with your goal, the easier it is to focus your efforts. There are so many distractions in the world, so having your “why” can help you keep your eyes on the prize.
Measurable
The M in SMART stands for “Measurable.” Can you add a number to the goal? This allows you to track the progress and figure out how things are looking when you reach a certain milestone. This also eliminates the grey area so you san see what worked, what didn’t work, and now what?
Achievable
The A in SMART stands for “Achievable.” Is your goal realistic and attainable? Challenge and push yourself, but make sure this new idea is achievable based on your resources and constraints. This will help you get your confidence up. You don’t want to be delusional, so think about how much time, energy, attention and money you have and adjust accordingly.
Relevant
The R in SMART stands for “Relevant.” Think about your mission, vision, values and purpose. Is this goal relevant to everything? Or is it a distraction and taking away from what your actual goals should be? You can look at a mirror and ask yourself “Yes? No? Am I being honest?" The eyes don’t lie.
Time-Bound
The T in SMART stands for “Time-Bound.” Do you have a timeline? This gives you just enough pressure around the sense or urgency, and helps you stay focused and motivated. One of Linda’s favorite yoga teachers says “Do you need pressure or time?” In other words, do you actually need more time to do something? Or just more pressure?
